Wishes of autism service dog handlers

What families with an autism service dog would appreciate from you:

Thanks to an autism service dog, a family with an autistic child is able to escape isolation and return to as normal an everyday life as possible. However, the autism service dog can only do its demanding job properly if it isn't distracted. When you meet up with an autism service dog team, therefore, it is imperative that you take note of the following:

  • Do not distract, call or feed the autism service dog in the blue vest. It may only be stroked if the owner agrees to this.
  • If you meet up with an autism service dog whilst out walking, put your own dog on the lead and continue quickly on your way.
  • Access should be granted to the autism service dog everywhere. It provides the child in its care with a feeling of security and helps to make the life of an affected family that much easier.
  • Autism dogs also need to exercise and may regularly roam freely and play with other dogs.
